Associate Professor, University of Porto·Adaptive Optics & Astronomical Instrumentation
I work on wavefront sensing, atmospheric tomography and real-time control for adaptive-optics systems on ground-based telescopes — from Keck and Gemini to instrument concepts for the ELT. Based in Porto (FEUP / INESC TEC / CENTRA); previously LAM Marseille, NRC Herzberg, and W. M. Keck Observatory.
Started as Associate Professor at the University of Porto, working across FEUP, INESC TEC and CENTRA.
New A&A paper: “First light for the GRAVITY+ Adaptive Optics” — extreme AO results for the VLTI upgrade.
Slow focus sensor design for Keck I laser guide star AO accepted in A&A.
Supervising PhD and MSc students on tomographic reconstruction, adaptive-optics telemetry standards, and RL-based XAO control — see Supervision.
