EXPANDING THE TECHNOLOGICAL READINESS OF FUTURE WIDE-FIELD ADAPTIVE-OPTICS SYSTEMS FOR GROUND-BASED ASTRONOMY - Feb'15-Jan'17, 400k€

 

EXTRA is an initiative of excellence funded by A*MIDEX over four years (Feb'15 thru Jan'19). EXTRA team gathers the PI (mylself) and

  • Charlotte Bond (super-sensitive wave-front sensing)
  • Olivier Martin (post-processing AO-corrected data)
  • Yoshito Ono (wide-field tomography and control)

2015 -

HARMONI

 

HARMONI is the first light spectroscopic capability for the European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT), providing visible and near-infrared integral field spectroscopy.

 

Main tasks relate to

 

  • Real-time computer specification
  • Adaptive optics (SCAO and LTAO) performance assessment
  • data post-processing

Detection of exo-Planets via High-Accuracy Radial-velocity spectrographic measurements with Adaptive Optics enHancement

The PHARAOH project aims the detection of exo-Planets via High-Accuracy Radial-velocity spectrographic measurements with Adaptive Optics enHancement. The chief objective of this proposal is therefore to assess the impact of adaptive-optics AO) correction on the detectability of Earth-like planets with a high-resolution, high-stability spectrograph on the future European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT).

2010 - 2015

Raven

 

The Raven project, being developed at the University of Victoria Adaptive Optics Lab, was be the first Multi-Object Adaptive Optics (MOAO) technical and science demonstrator installed on an 8 m class telescope, the Subaru Telescope.

 

I've contributed to desing specification, real-time tomographic wave-front reconstruction&control and calibration leading to the advisory of and papers [see full list here]

 

 

2009 - 2013

TMT - NFIRAOS

 

TMT will be the first ground-based astronomy telescope designed with adaptive optics (AO) as an integral system element. The Narrow Field Infrared Adaptive Optics System (NFIRAOS) will be the first adaptive optics system deployed on TMT.

 

I've led efforts related to the optimisation of sky-coverage through the optimal dynamical estimation of tilt and tilt-anisoplanatism modes. In parallel PSF reconstruction from AO telemetry was given wide attention for such a novel and demanding AO multi-conjugate mode.
